Closing The Gaps In Your Sanded Floors
GJP Floor Sanding Surrey is committed to improving both the look and utility of your wooden floor during the sanding process. Filling the gaps between exposed floorboards can help reduce drafts, prevent dirt from building up in the cracks and improves the look and feel of your floor, giving a smooth and continuous finish. GJP Floor Sanding currently uses three techniques for gap filling which include: resin filler, wood slivers, and our unique ‘Flexi Fill’ option.
Resin filler
The most common technique for filling gaps is to mix wood dust from the sanded floor with resin to form a paste that is pressed into the gaps and then sanded when dry.
Gap filling using resin mixed with pine dust is only recommended for gaps up to 3mm wide, loss of the resin gap fill may occur through the natural movement of the floorboards. GJP Flooring cannot be held responsible if this occurs. Never wet mop you floors, always use the correct cleaning products to clean your floors. This is the least expensive method of filling gaps, but we believe it is also one of the least effective.
Solid Wood Strips
Using pre-made wood slivers to fill the gaps between floorboards gives a premium finish and is less prone to cracking or falling due to board movement than resin/pva filler.
Wood slithers are made from hand cut reclaimed pine and gives the effect of a solid wood floor. The wood slivers are dipped in PVA glue and hammered into position between the floorboards before being sanded back creating a continuous appearance.
